Description
Kambirinachi believes she is an Ogbanje, a malevolent spirit destined to bring misfortune and torment to her family. Her daughters, the twins Taiye and Kehinde, were separated by a traumatic event, which over time has made them strangers: Kehinde has found her way as an artist and is building a family, but fears she won’t be a good mother; Taiye is haunted by guilt towards her sister, and after years of trying to fill this void with drugs and casual relationships, she seems to have finally found solace in her love for cooking. Now, after being apart for more than ten years, the three women meet in their large house in Lagos, Nigeria, forced to confront and reconcile with the wounds of the past. A wonderful debut novel, a family saga with a cosmopolitan breath where food serves as a natural glue, while the time spent in the kitchen becomes a way to describe the reticences, the silences, but also the love.
