At the top of the Norwegian best-seller list is Hvis det skulle komme et menneske (“If Someone Were to Drop By”) by Thomas Korsgaard, published by Bonnier.
Hvis det skulle komme et menneske is the translation of the first volume of Korsgaard’s Danish trilogy, released in his home country under the title Man skulle nok have været der by the publisher Lindhardt og Ringhof, which won the prestigious De Gyldne Laurbær (“The Golden Laurel”) award last year. In Denmark, the author’s Copenhagen trilogy has sold more than three hundred thousand copies.
Released when Korsgaard was only twenty-one, Man skulle nok have været der tells the semi-autobiographical story of Tue, a boy living with his dysfunctional family on a farm on the brink of bankruptcy. Compared to the works of Édouard Louis, Jean-Baptiste Del Amo, and Douglas Stuart, Korsgaard’s trilogy has been received by critics as «a true masterpiece, nothing less than sensational».
